Friday morning I was enjoying an extra cup of coffee and pondering the things I wanted to get accomplished for the day. The weather was wonderful and our old fashioned screen door was letting all of the morning breezes come through the kitchen.
A knock on said door caught me off guard. I was even more astonished that there was an older man and woman calling through the screen. I wondered if they were lost or maybe wanted share share the gospel with me. One never can tell......
They introduced themselves and let me know they were cousins. The lady used to visit her great-grandfather when he owned our farm. She proceeded to explain the floor plan that was in place in the 1950's. At that time the house still did not have running water and a wood cook stove was still in use. She also explained that there was not an outhouse on the property. She said a walk over the ridge was in order if you needed to find a private spot. This surprised me to no end.
She also spoke of collecting watercress, for her great-grandmother, at the spring house, how her g. grandfather took care of his mules in the barn, and that the farm was originally over 200 acres.
Before they left, she had her cousin take a photo of her on the front porch.
This visit made my day and she was so glad to see the house still in good care.
