Neo-Gothic Grandeur

This beautiful Gothic mansion sits along Milwaukee's lakefront. The gorgeous turrets, lacy fringe, and other ornate details make me want to whip out my art history books and find the names of all the architectural elements involved!

When I was younger, I wanted to live in this house. Not that I would exactly reject an offer to live there now...Can you imagine what could be done with this place for Halloween!?

I really wanted to learn the history behind this mansion, but I had to do some serious digging to find any information! I can tell you that it was built in the Neo-Gothic/Victorian Gothic style during the 1890s. Since it was built in Milwaukee during this time, I guessed that it might have belonged to one of the beer barons. I was correct! This beautiful house was a gift from Captain Fredrick Pabst to his daughter Marie when she married William O. Goodrich. The mansion next door to this one was commissioned by Capt. Pabst's son in 1906. It's outstanding in its own right, but it was designed in a completely different fashion.

Captain Pabst's mansion is also beautifully detailed. His mansion is rumored to be haunted, and his daughter's house looks like it should be. It's really no wonder that I love this house. It was built during my favorite time period in one of my favorite styles. Milwaukee is full of amazing architecture and is rich with history. For those who like Victorian houses, there are a lot of them to see. If you do believe in ghosts or at least have a little imagination, the mansion tours are even more fun!
