Painting update

With the Prussian army completed, I've moved on to the French. I had a head start from buying some painted French infantry in great coats, which gave me I think 8 units. I have another four that I've painted myself, with another six or so to go (all infantry). I've got one unit of Empress Dragoons, plus two units each of cuirassiers, chasseurs and dragoons to go. I've got two batteries of guns completed, with another three batteries (two guns each) to finish. When done, the French army will be a little smaller than my Prussian one, so I may have to add some more infantry.

I've also started working on some "town" terrain. I've seen people use smaller scale buildings with an emphasis on the verticle aspect that works pretty well. It's a sort of visual reminder that these are battalions on the table fighting over villages not a handful of men skirmishing around a few houses. I printed out a few samples and have the basic look down, but want to see if I can find some blocks of wood that are the right size that I could just glue the paper to directly instead of messing with cardstock or foamcore. Ideally, I'll have four small (but tall) houses on a single base with enough room for four infantry bases around them (to show them deployed in the town).

I'm a fan of Piquet (rule system) and the latest edition of Cartouche 2 (1695-1790) is finally out. I participated in the development and am glad to see it finally get printed. I've been working on an AWI supplement for it and the Theater of War campaign system that's been 95 percent done for some time. I'd like to try to finish that and either publish it or share it for free, depending on interest from Piquet's owners. If you want to learn more about the rules, go to Piquet.com
